Get Hands-On: Stop Bleeding with the U.S. Army

Join Dr. Vanessa Sieg and SSG Christian Rodriguez of the United States Army in a tourniquet course to learn vital emergency techniques that could potentially save a life in a bleeding emergency. By taking part in this interactive session, you will:

  • Grasp the life-saving method of applying pressure to a wound with your hands, effectively controlling the flow of blood.
  • Understand and practice how to pack a wound properly to stop bleeding and stabilize the victim.
  • Learn how to use a tourniquet appropriately and safely, providing quick and efficient aid in an emergency.

This course will arm you with critical knowledge and skills to act effectively in a bleeding emergency, potentially saving a life when every minute counts. All supplies will be provided for the workshop.

He practices at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and is on faculty at Harvard Medical School. He is also the founder of MedSchoolCoach, helping future physicians realize their dream of becoming a doctor.

Dr. Vanessa Sieg is an emergency medicine physician in Fort Hood, Texas and is affiliated with Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center. She received her medical degree from Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine. She is an expert at diagnosing and treating patients with life-threatening conditions, including massive bleeding.

Staff Sergeant Christian Rodriguez, a US Army Healthcare Recruiter, rose to a Dental Laboratory Technician within a year of enlistment. A top recruiter and expert on health professions scholarships, he's received a Meritorious Service Medal, multiple Army Commendation and Achievement Medals.

Erin is a senior at UT Austin studying Biomedical Engineering and Pre-Medical Studies. On campus, she is engaged with AMSA, Tau Beta Pi, and Longhorn EMS. Erin has researched osteoarthritis treatments using nanoparticles and is now a Clinical Consultant at NeuroTalks and Director of Internal Affairs at KiNDL.

Attend as many or as few seminars, presentations, and interactive workshops as you wish. You can come and go as you need to. However, as an elite event for future physicians, we wouldn't recommend you miss a single minute!

Yes! While it is a live event, we will have a videographer on site. The videos will take a few weeks to edit and process, and then they will be posted.

Yes! The Mini Pre-Med Conference will be completely free for AMSA students attending The University of Texas at Austin. The purpose of this event is to provide information to all prospective doctors the help grow the profession.

Yes! The sessions LIVE this September will be quite interactive. Still, the sessions held last school year with MedSchoolCoach, Global Medical Brigades, and the U.S. Army are still quite informative. You can still watch them today!
